Disable HEIC Image Format on iOS

Why do I need to do this?

iPhones capture photos in HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) format by default. While HEIC produces smaller file sizes, it is not universally supported by web applications — including Forestree.

When you upload a HEIC image, Forestree may fail to process or display it correctly. Switching your iPhone to capture photos in JPEG format ensures smooth, reliable uploads every time.


How to disable HEIC on iOS

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap Camera.
  3. Tap Formats.

  4. Under Camera Capture, select Most Compatible.


Your iPhone will now save photos as JPEG files, which are fully supported by Forestree.


Note: This setting only affects new photos taken after the change. Any existing HEIC photos already in your camera roll will remain in HEIC format. If you need to upload existing HEIC photos, you can AirDrop or email them to yourself — iOS will automatically convert them to JPEG during transfer.
