Forestree Uploader
This guide provides instructions for using the Forestree desktop application to connect with the Forestree service, validate your API key, and bulk upload images to Forestree's S3. The app generates a CSV file for bulk operations.
Prerequisites
- Forestree API Key: Required to authenticate with the Forestree service.
- Desktop App: The Forestree Uploader app must be installed.
- Images: Place all images to upload in a single folder (no subfolders).
- Internet Connection: Required for API validation and S3 uploads.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Request an API Key from Forestree
To access the Forestree service, you need a valid API key.
- Go to Admin Settings -> API Keys -> Generate a new API Key
- Name the API key accordingly and store it somewhere safe
2. Download the desktop app
- Download the App:
- Log in to the Forestree web platform (as an admin)
- Navigate to Admin Settings > Companion Apps.
- Select Forestree Uploader and download the app for your operating system.
- Unzip the app
- Unzip the app by right clicking the downloaded zip file and click "Extract all", choose output destination and click done.
- Navigate to the newly created folder and you should see an executable ('.exe') file named Forestree Uploader.exe
- This app has been designed to not require installation to use.
- Launch the app
- Double click the exe file to launch the app
- Enter your API key in the provided field.
- Click Test and save to authenticate with the Forestree.
- If the API key is valid, you will see a green tick and a message that the API key have been save securely.
3. Navigate to the Upload Section
- From the main dashboard, locate and click the Upload in the navigation menu.
- Ensure the Client Name matches your Client's Name. If not, please contact [email protected]
- Choose Folder:
- Click the Select Folder button on the upload page.
- Browse your computer to locate the folder containing your images.
- Select the folder and click Open (or equivalent, depending on your operating system).
- Verify Folder Contents:
- Ensure the folder contains only the images you intend to upload. Supported formats include JPEG, and PNG. Other formats including HEIC might not work as intended.
- Click start upload
4. Dashboard
- Once upload is complete, go back to dashboard, look at the folders at the bottom of the page, and take note of the name of the folder you just uploaded, the newest one should be on top of the list.
- Click on the "Download CSV" to download a CSV file containing the folders information including filenames, urls and other information.
Image uploaded with the uploader will be stored on Forestree's server on your clients dedicated folders and can be used for other operations such as:
- Importing Storms
- Bulk import trees (Coming soon)
Note:
- Do not close the application while uploads in progress. If the program is accidentally terminated, starts it again and it will attempt to resume download after the dialog presented.
