Pests & Diseases Overview

Introduction
Pests & Disease (PD) management is an upcoming feature in Forestree, scheduled for beta testing release in September/October 2026.
Prior to this Forestree supported PD tracking through simply tagging trees, this is still available as well as a migration tool to help move to this new version. This feature introduces a variety of new functionality, including:
- Pest and disease inspections
- Pest and disease symptom tracking
- Susceptible species tracking
- Pest and disease reporting
- Pest and disease map, showing infected and susceptible species, and a scrollable timeline
- Traps, including inspections
- Pest and disease monitoring area tracking
- Pest and disease quarantine zone tracking
- Pest and disease volunteer inspection projects
- Cross-council pest and disease reporting
System and Custom
To support cross-client reporting on PDs we have system PDs. These are preconfigured PDs with the same attributes across every council.
We do support overriding attributes in system PDs, however, we recommend that you aim to keep these customisations to a minimum to assist in cross-client reporting.
Custom PDs are limited to a single Forestree client. These can be configured as much as you would like.
Pest & Disease Attributes
Spread Radius
Spread radius can be configured for system and custom PDs. Spread radius is shown on the map surrounding trees with an active infection.
This is intended to represent how far a PD may be able to spread from an infected tree, allowing the map to show other at risk trees.
Work Tasks
Applicable work tasks can be configured for system and custom PDs. PD work tasks are an extension to regular Forestree work tasks. They have a few unique characteristics:
- They are not able to have their group changed, however, their name can still be aliased/overridden
- They are able to have sub-types. For example, a chemical application may have subtasks of different chemicals that we may want to apply for treatment. A work task is not required to have sub types.
Work tasks are created when inspecting a tree either through the PD map, or the regular inspection map. When a PD work task is selected, if it has sub-types, these will be shown for selection.
Symptoms
Symptoms track what signs of a PD are seen in an inspection. Applicable symptoms can be configured for system and custom PDs.
Symptoms are able to be grouped, allowing only one item in each group to be selected in an inspection. They can do not have to be grouped, in which case they will be shown as a checkbox, instead of a radio single select.
Symptoms can have example photos uploaded. These will be shown in inspections and in volunteer projects.
Symptoms have a severity level, from 'no sign' to to 'extreme'. The highest severity symptom selected is the severity recorded against an inspection.
Susceptible Species
Susceptible species can be customised for system and custom PDs.
Non-infected susceptible species are shown on the map using semi-transparent smaller colour coded points.
Trap Types
The trap types that apply to a given PD can be configured for system and custom PDs. When they are selected, these traps will appear on the map for that PD and be able to be inspected. Trap types have a inspection criteria for each PD. The level that is selected in an inspection is the level that will be shown on the map.
Inspection Types
Inspection types are used in reporting to track how the tree was inspected. These can be customised for system and custom PDs.
